How to Get from
Tivat Airport to Budva
Tivat Airport (TIV) is the closest airport to Budva, just 25 minutes by road along the scenic Adriatic coast. It is a small, easy-to-navigate airport served by seasonal flights from across Europe. Here is every option for getting from Tivat to Budva, along with what to expect from the alternative airports.
Taxi (the easiest option)
A taxi from Tivat Airport to Budva takes approximately 25 minutes and costs around €25–30. Licensed taxis wait outside the arrivals hall. Always confirm the price before getting in, or ask the driver to use the meter. The route follows the coastal road through Tivat town and along the Bay of Kotor before turning south toward Budva — it is a beautiful drive, especially if you arrive in daylight. Most taxis accept cash only, so have euros ready.
Private transfer
If you prefer a fixed price and a driver waiting with your name, a pre-booked private transfer is the most comfortable option. Prices are similar to a taxi (€25–35) but you avoid any negotiation at the airport. Many transfer companies offer air-conditioned minivans that can accommodate families with luggage. If you book one of our apartments, we can help arrange an airport transfer for you — just message us on WhatsApp and we will connect you with a trusted local driver.
Bus
There is no direct bus from Tivat Airport to Budva, but it is straightforward with one connection. Take a local bus or short taxi from the airport to Tivat bus station (about 5 minutes), then catch a regular intercity bus to Budva (30–40 minutes, around €3–5). Buses run frequently during summer, roughly every 30–60 minutes. This is the cheapest option, though it takes longer and requires managing luggage on public transport.
Rental car
Several car rental agencies operate at Tivat Airport, including international names and local companies. Rates start around €25–30 per day in summer. Having a car is the best option if you plan to explore beyond Budva — day trips to Kotor, Lovcen, Cetinje, and Sveti Stefan are far easier with your own wheels. Parking in Budva is manageable outside of peak hours; there are paid lots near the Old Town and along the main road.
Other airports
Podgorica Airport (TGD) is the capital's airport, about 65 kilometres inland. It has year-round flights and is often cheaper than Tivat. The drive to Budva takes roughly 60 minutes via the Sozina tunnel. A taxi costs approximately €40–50.
Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) in Croatia is about 80 kilometres away, including a border crossing at Debeli Brijeg. The journey takes around 90 minutes in good conditions, but the border queue can add 1–2 hours in peak summer. It is worth considering if you find significantly cheaper flights to Dubrovnik, but factor in the border wait and a higher transfer cost (€60–80).
Planning your arrival
Whichever route you choose, getting to Budva is straightforward.
