Best Beaches Near
Budva, Montenegro
The Budva Riviera stretches along some of the most beautiful coastline in the Mediterranean, and within a short distance of the town centre you will find beaches for every mood — long sandy crescents, hidden coves beneath medieval walls, and dramatic cliff-backed strips of turquoise water. Here is a local's guide to the best beaches near Budva, from the most popular to the ones most visitors never find.
Slovenska Beach
The main town beach and the one you will use most. Slovenska is a 600-metre crescent of sand and fine pebble running along the promenade from the marina to the edge of the Old Town. It has everything — loungers, beach bars, lifeguards, showers, and a gently sloping seabed that is safe for children. The western end near the Old Town is the quietest. It is busiest in July and August after midday, but early morning swims are always peaceful. Our Seaview Grand, Cozy Seaside, and Luxury Seaside apartments are all approximately 200 metres from Slovenska.
Mogren Beach
The hidden gem just around the headland from the Old Town. Mogren is reached through a short tunnel carved into the cliff — it feels like entering a different world. There are actually two Mogren beaches connected by a rock passage, and between them stands the famous bronze statue of a dancing girl, one of Budva's most photographed landmarks. The water here is crystal clear, the cliffs provide afternoon shade, and the crowds are a fraction of Slovenska's. Bring water shoes for the pebbles.
Richard's Head (Ricardova Glava)
A tiny, atmospheric cove tucked directly beneath the Old Town walls. Named after the actor Richard Widmark, who filmed here in the 1960s, it is the most scenic swimming spot in Budva — you float in turquoise water while medieval fortifications rise above you. It is small and fills up quickly, so arrive early or come in the late afternoon when others leave. The entrance is through the Old Town itself.
Jaz Beach
About 3 kilometres west of Budva, Jaz is the largest and arguably the most beautiful beach in the area. It is split into two sections: a wide sandy stretch at the western end and a pebble area to the east. Backed by green hills rather than buildings, Jaz has a wilder, more natural feel than the town beaches. It hosts the Sea Dance music festival and has several good restaurants. You can reach it by car (parking costs a few euros), by local bus, or even by a scenic 30-minute walk along the coastal path from Budva.
Becici Beach
A long sandy beach about 2 kilometres southeast of Budva centre, Becici won the Grand Prix in Paris for the most beautiful beach in Europe back in 1935. It has retained its appeal: wide, sandy, with clear water and a relaxed atmosphere. There are beach clubs with loungers and music, plus quieter public stretches. It is a 15-minute walk from Budva along the coastal promenade or a quick bus ride. Families with children particularly enjoy the calm, shallow water.
Kamenovo Beach
Tucked into a cove between Becici and Rafailovici, Kamenovo is a pebble beach with a more upscale, laid-back feel. A couple of beach bars serve food and cocktails, and the setting — enclosed by wooded hillsides dropping to the sea — is beautiful. The water is clean and calm, and the beach is rarely overcrowded even in peak season. Access is via a path off the main coastal road; there is a small car park at the top.
Sveti Stefan Beach
The public beach beside the iconic fortified island of Sveti Stefan, about 8 kilometres south of Budva. The pink-hued pebbles, the crystal-clear water, and the view of the island connected by its narrow causeway make this one of the most photogenic beaches in the entire Mediterranean. The island itself is an Aman luxury resort and closed to non-guests, but the public beach on the mainland side is open to everyone. Stop at one of the hillside restaurants for coffee or lunch with the best view on the coast.
